Evelyn Cluelow Semsey
Evelyn Cluelow Semsey, 94, of Uniontown, Pa., died on Thursday, May 18, 2006, in the Hileman Personal Care Home surrounded by her family. She was born March 18, 1912, in Upland, Delaware County, Pa. She was the daughter of Harry Burke Cluelow and Anna Evelyn Thorpe.
She was the oldest of five siblings: Harry, Lillian Pratt, Florence White and James Garland Cluelow. Only J. Garland in Port Arthur, Texas still survives.
Evelyn was a well-known musician as a bassist. She studied at Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh and toured for a number of years with Jean Wald all-female orchestra.
After marrying and starting a family, Evelyn remained active in her profession by playing the bass violin with local orchestras, such as Mickey Sharp’s, Johnny Silver’s, Ray Griffith’s and the Uniontown Symphony Orchestra.
Evelyn was also an accomplished seamstress with many clients from the Uniontown area. She lovingly sewed many things for her grandchildren until her failing eyesight and arthritis robbed her of that pleasure.
