Ferne Emeline Poorbaugh, 86, of Somerset, Pa., died Monday, May 22, 2006, at Siemons Lakeview Manor Estate in Somerset, Pa. She was born on September 12, 1919, in Somerset, Pa. the daughter of James Lawrence Poorbaugh and Emma Miller Poorbaugh.

She gradated from Somerset High School Class of 1937, was a 1941 graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Susquehanna University and a 1951 graduate with a Master of Science Degree from West Virginia University.

She worked as a High School Teacher for Laurel Highlands School in Uniontown until her retirement in 1982 with 42 years of service.

Ferne was a member of OES #138 Trinity Chapter, PASR PA Association of School Retirees, Margaret and Caven Shrine #42 in Uniontown, Order of Amaranth #1 and Oriental Shrine #1 both in Morgantown, West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Forrest E. Poorbaugh.

She is survived by nieces: Mrs. Franklin C. (Betty Jo) Bittner of Berlin, Pa. and Mrs. William (Patricia L.) Barron of Corinth, Texas; great-niece, Mrs. Todd (Kelly) Zerfoss of Cape Coral, Florida; great-nephew, James M. Barron and wife Ann of Plano, Texas; and a great-great-nephew Zachary.

Friends will be received in the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home in Somerset on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday, May 27, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Charles Olsen officiating.

Interment will be in Husband Cemetery.
