SUMMER READING CAMP: Several Presbyterian churches in the Uniontown area are working together to provide two summer reading camps that are designed to help children who have been in first and second grades and are reading below grade levels. Each camp will be staffed with trained teachers who will work with four students. All adult leadership will have their state police clearance. The program will consist of individual instruction, group activities, crafts and computer review as well as a snack time. The camps are offered free of charge to parents and are being funded through a grant by the National Organization of Presbyterian Women.

The first camp will be held at the New Salem Presbyterian Church June 19-July 6 from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday each week. This camp is limited to 12 students. Those interested in enrolling should call 724-245-2200.

The second camp will be held at Trinity United Presbyterian Church of Uniontown from July 10-27 from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday each week. This camp is limited to 12 students. Those wishing to enroll should register by calling 724-439-2824.

ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, corner of Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street in Uniontown, announces the Asbury Youths vs. Asbury Adults basketball game scheduled for today at 7 p.m. at the YMCA has been cancelled and will be rescheduled at a later date.

Sunday’s more casual 9 a.m. worship service includes the Rev. Thomas Brown’s message “Are You Qualified?’ praise choruses led by song leader Barb Cruse, and special music by pianist Sharon Brown.

The more traditional 11 a.m. service will include Brown’s message and special music by the Asbury Chancel Choir, led by Jim Hutchinson, organist and music director. Asbury Youth Fellowship meets from 4 to 6:30 p.m. for students in grades six through 12. The youths are having a car wash on June 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the driveway between the church and parsonage.

The weekly praise and worship service begins at 6:30 p.m. in fellowship hall with entrance on Dunbar Street. This is an informal contemporary worship service with praise music by Paul and Barb Cramer, Kevin Milliken and Paul Chiado and a message by Paul Cramer on Max Lucado’s book “Come Thirsty.’ A time for fellowship begins at 6 p.m. with dessert and beverages served.

LIGHT AND LIFE FREE METHODIST CAMPGROUND IN FAIRCHANCE, located on Route 857, Morgantown Street, across from Sweet Pea’s gas station, will host The Annual Spring Brush Arbor today through Monday at 7 p.m. with Quinton Mills as guest speaker and singer. Mills, a Native American Indian, was converted in 1972 after many years of addiction to alcohol, drugs and rock music. He is known as a prolific writer, singer and a powerful anointed evangelist. In the mid-80s, Mills wrote and released the song “I Found the Lily in My Valley,’ which brought him national attention. Since then, he has written and released many other hits that has made him one of America’s favorite gospel singers. There will be a yard sale at the campground today, Saturday and Monday at 8 a.m. On Saturday, there will be a spaghetti dinner at the camp dining hall from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. All proceeds go to the camp fund.
