Church benefits from project
Troy A. Johnston recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the Court of Honor ceremony at Pechin Chapel Fellowship Hall, Dunbar. He has been in Scouting since kindergarten holding several ranks and is currently a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster of Dunbar Troop 180.
Johnston’s Eagle Scout service project consisted of doing repairs at the St. Aloysius R.C. Church in Dunbar.
Johnston stained the fences entering the church grounds; cleared shrubbery and brush away from the outdoor stations, before staining them; stained three crosses on the hill; removed patio blocks; stained the rectory’s porch and sundeck; and built and stained three benches beside the pond. He had nine people, including family members help him. He spent 112 hours on this project.
Johnston is a sophomore at Connellsville Area Senior High School, where he is a member of the Mighty Falcon Marching Band and the chorus.
Johnston is also a member of the St. Aloysius R.C. Church were he serves as an acolyte, an alter server, co-vice president of the youth ministry group, and a teacher’s aide for CCD classes.
He is the son of Randy D. and Carol R. Johnston.
