Office hours set U.S. Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Johnstown) has announced his outreach schedule for the month in Fayette and Greene counties.

The staff member based in the congressman’s Uniontown office, 20 N. Gallatin Ave., will be out of the office during the times listed below to do outreach at other locations.

The schedule for Fayette County is: Connellsville – City Hall, 110 N. Arch St., 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday and Oct. 19; and Brownsville – borough building, Second and High streets, 11 to 2 p.m. Oct. 26.

The schedule for Greene County is: Waynesburg – Room 303, Greene County Office Building, 93 E. High St., from 9:30 to 3 p.m. today and Oct. 17, and Oct. 31, and from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 10 and Oct. 24; and Carmichaels – borough building, 200 S. Market St., Oct. 10 and Oct. 24 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Diabetes class slated

Highlands Hospital will conduct a Diabetic Self-Management Class at 5:30 p.m. this Wednesday and on Wednesdays, Oct. 18 and 25, in the hospital’s learning center.

The hospital, in conjunction with Penn State, will be hosting a free diabetes health forum on Friday at 9 a.m. at the Hiller Fire Hall.

There will be speakers, health screenings and refreshments. For more information, call Pat McKissock, R.N., diabetic educator, at 724-626-2216.

On Saturday, Highlands Hospital personnel will be participating in the American Heart Association Heart Walk starting at 9 a.m. at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus. Donations, in any amount, are welcome and can be dropped off at the hospital. For additional information, call 724-626-2440.

Cumberland meets

CUMBERLAND TWP. – Township supervisors on Monday unanimously approved several measures concerning the Community Development Grant program.

The supervisors hired attorney J. William Hook to review the 2003-2006 CDBG budgets at a rate of $115 an hour and $90 per mortgage.

CDBG administrator Marcia E. Sonneborn was authorized to negotiate a contract with Hook based on those amounts.

Sonneborn was also authorized to make revisions to the budgets of the 2000-2002 CDBG programs.

In other business, Milinovich and Co. of Waynesburg was hired to audit all township accounts at a cost of $4,500.

The supervisors also approved trick-or-treating on Oct. 28 from 2 to 4 p.m.
