Joseph William Shaffer
Joseph William Shaffer, 71, of Smithfield, Pa., died Sunday, October 8, 2006, in the Uniontown Hospital. He was born December 11, 1934, in Gates, Pa., the son of Walter E. and Lucy Harris Shaffer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Edward Ervin Shaffer and Harry Rebock Shaffer, daughter, Diana Lynn Shaffer Houze, son, Joseph William Shaffer Jr.
Joe (Dad) was a welder, heavy equipment operator and diesel and auto mechanic. For 18 years he worked as a valuable part of Shaffer’s Diesel and Shaffer’s Towing of Masontown, Pa. He enjoyed most the special time spent with family and friends and was well known for his great sense of humor and love for life. He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren and he adored the love of his life, his wife Betty.
Surviving are his wife Betty Jean Minerd Shaffer; brother, Jess James Shaffer of Smithfield, Pa.; sister, Peggy Shell and husband Larry from Allentown, Pa; daughters, Tanya Lee Shaffer Ruda and husband Michael of Clarksville, Pa., Jacqueline Ann Shaffer Shay and husband Scot of Uniontown, Pa.; sons, William Edward Shaffer and wife Connie of Smithfield, Pa., James Harald Shaffer and wife Mia of Smithfield, Pa., Robert Russell Shaffer and wife Malisa of Smithfield, Pa.; grandchildren, Toni Ann Ruda, Nicole Mary Houze, William Edward Shaffer Jr., Joseph William Tomasek, Joshua Adam Shaffer, Jessi Rae Shaffer, Matthew Alan Shay, James Harald Shaffer Jr., Chealsie Joe Shaffer, Robert Russell Shaffer Jr., Amanda Jo Shaffer; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the BERNARD M. TOWNSEND FUNERAL HOME, 220 South Main Street, Masontown, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday until 11 a.m. the hour of service with the Rev. Justin Agrabright officiating.
Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
