Old Pittsburgh Road permanently closed

By Steve Ferris 1 min read

North Union Township supervisors on Tuesday said Old Pittsburgh Road has been permanently closed at the Route 51 intersection in the ongoing Mon/Fayette Expressway construction project. Supervisor Rob Tupta said access to Old Pittsburgh Road from Route 51 was permanently closed on Monday, but a temporary access road just south of Old Pittsburgh Road is open.

Tupta said residents are encouraged to use Smith Road to reach areas of Old Pittsburgh Road.

The project includes construction of a new road, Northgate Highway, which will connect Route 51 and Route 40 when it opens next summer, he said.

He also said the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 51 will be opened for the winter.

In other business, the supervisors:

? Extended residential yard waste burning through Nov. 15 from daylight to dusk Mondays through Saturdays.

? Approved holding Halloween trick or treating from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31.
