Fairchance council to prepare streetlight amendment
FAIRCHANCE – Borough council agreed Wednesday to prepare an amendment to an ordinance that would require streetlights to be installed in new residential developments. Council President Herbert J. Myers said it was recently brought to his attention that there are no streetlights on Beth Drive.
A number of houses were built on Beth Drive several years ago.
Councilman Raymond C. Eicher said the borough has a street ordinance that requires developers to build roads to meet borough specifications.
He said that ordinance could be amended to include a provision requiring the installation streetlights.
New streetlights cost approximately $1,000 each, Myers said.
The amendment could come up for a vote at next month’s council meeting.
In unrelated business, Myers said the police committee will look for a used vehicle to buy for the police department.
Mayor Benjamin G. Eicher said one of the two police vehicles is “dead” and he was told about a 2000 Jeep vehicle with 50,000 miles that a local dealership is selling for $5,000.
Raymond Eicher said that seems a bit expensive for a 6-year-old vehicle.
In other business, council scheduled Halloween trick-or-treating for Oct. 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. and asked residents who wish to participate to turn on their porch lights during that time.
The borough’s annual Halloween parade begins at 2 p.m. Oct. 29.
