Perryopolis moves trick or treat up one day

By Rebekah Sungala 2 min read

PERRYOPOLIS – After receiving several complaints from residents, borough council decided Wednesday to change the set time for trick or treat, moving it ahead one day. Trick or treating in the borough will now take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 29. It was originally scheduled for Oct. 30.

The Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department Halloween Parade will still be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 30.

Council said they decided to move the date after several parents called in, saying it’s too difficult to get everything ready for trick or treat on a school and work day.

In an unrelated matter, council agreed to allow BPA Communications create a municipal publication at no cost to the borough.

Bernie Antonio of BPA Communications said the publication will contain a borough map on the inside of the brochure. The map will be surrounded with paid advertisements that pay for the publication.

The back of the brochure will contain whatever information council decides to have printed, be in pictures, phone numbers or historical information.

“It doesn’t cost the borough one cent,” Antonio said. “Borough council has 100 percent editorial control of the back panel.”

Antonio said that the company will be in touch with local businesses to see if they want to purchase advertising space.

Once the publication is completed, BPA Communications will send one out to every residence and business within the borough, he said, noting that the borough building will have extras on hand to give out to newcomers and visitors.

As for other matters, council announced Widmer Engineering received all necessary permits from the Department of Environmental Protection for the St. Johns Bridge project. Council voted to put the bridge project out for bid.

In another matter, council also voted to advertise an ordinance for trash collection prepared by borough solicitor Cara Davis. The borough will soon be accepting bids for trash collection.

The next regular council meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8.
