ST. PAUL’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 224 S. Market St., Carmichaels, will be distributing coats and clothing to those in need from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. This is the third year for the clothing giveaway that is sponsored by both St. Paul’s and its sister church, Jacobs Lutheran Church in German Township. Last year, the churches collected more than 1,000 items for the giveaway that included coats, jackets, hats, scarves, gloves, sweatshirts and jeans. This year, the selection is expanded to include all kinds of usable clothing, not just winter. There is a lot of clothing and many sizes.

ALLISON CHRISTIAN CHURCH announces tonight’s X-Factor youth meeting has been canceled. The youths will participate in the Alzheimer’s walk at the Pittsburgh Zoo on Saturday. ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, corner of Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street in Uniontown, on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. will host the University of Pittsburgh Heinz Chapel Choir in the sanctuary when it presents an a cappella concert of sacred and secular music. The 50-member choir includes Samantha Meese, a graduate of Laurel Highlands and member of Asbury. The concert is offered free of charge.

On Sunday, the Children’s Sabbath will be celebrated at both services. This year’s theme is health and safety for children. Items collected will include child safety gates, outlet covers, child safety latches for cabinet doors and smoke detectors. A special offering will be collected.

Sunday’s more casual 9 a.m. worship service includes a message by guest speaker Patty Tobal, project manager for the Nurse Family Partnership, and special music by The Asbury Praise Band with Paul and Barb Cramer, Kevin Milliken, Paul Chiado and Ira Fox. Mary Kay Milliken and Bev Roscoe are liturgists.

At 9:45 a.m. Sunday school for all ages, Trooper Brian Burden of the Pennsylvania State Police will present a special program for adults in the Rev. Tom Brown’s Sunday school room.

The more traditional 11 a.m. service will include the message by the Uniontown Exchange Club and special music by The Asbury Praise Band and pianist Kevin Milliken. Liturgists are the same. Burden will speak to children up to grade five during children’s church. Loving Nursery Care is available for infants and children under 4. Children’s bulletins available for ages 3 to 7. Tele-receivers are available for the hearing impaired.

The weekly praise and worship service is held in Asbury’s Fellowship Hall with entrance on Dunbar Street and begins at 6:30 p.m. The informal contemporary service will be led in music by Asbury’s Praise Band with Kevin Milliken, Paul and Barb Cramer, Paul Chiado and Ira Fox with a message by Travis Dean. A chili cook-off will begin at 6 p.m.

BREAKTHROUGH WORSHIP CENTER, located on Ferguson Road in Mount Braddock, worships Sunday at 10:30 a.m. with contemporary praise and worship and the Rev. Adam Lawson, senior pastor, bringing the message. Extreme Adventures Children’s Ministry will meet during worship. The regular evening discipleship class and evangelism team will not meet this week as the church leadership will attend leadership training by Dr. John Polis of Revival Fellowship International. Beginning Oct. 19 at 6 p.m., Perryopolis First Christian will offer a monthly healing service in the sanctuary. The new service will be more meditative than the traditional Sunday gathering. Many of the songs will come from the Taize tradition. There will be time spent in silence and prayer, hearing Scripture, receiving Communion and having the opportunity to receive a blessing using healing oil. The lights will be dimmed and candles will be used. The service will last about 45 minutes. There will be no announcements or invitations to other church programs. The community is invited. The service will be held the third Thursday of each month. Officials said, “A service of healing is designed for those who need to slow down, to be still, to listen to God and to receive the healing and wholeness that is available to each of us through Jesus Christ.’
