Connellsville high school band to hold competition

By Patty Yauger 2 min read

CONNELLSVILLE – The Connellsville Area High School Mighty Falcon Marching Band will hold its first band competition Saturday and extends an invitation to the public to attend. “Music In Motion” will feature the local high school band along with Avonworth High School Band of Pittsburgh, the Saint Albans High School of Charleston, W.Va., and the Steel Valley High School Band of Munhall, during the outdoor event at Falcon Stadium beginning at 6 p.m.

“Normally we just take part in parades and similar events,” said Jim Henigin, Connellsville band director. “Last year, we participated in a band competition at Southmoreland High School and the kids really liked it and decided that they would like to host one.

“The Falcon Band Boosters got behind the idea and ran with it.”

Last week, the marching band brought home second place honors from a competition held in Elkins, W.Va., said Henigin.

The effort netted the band six trophies and placement in the regional championship competition on Nov. 4.

In addition to the musical entertainment, the boosters’ organization will be offering baked goods for sale, a Chinese auction, and T-shirts and other band items for purchase. The Connellsville Lions Club will operate the concession stand throughout the evening.

Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens. Children under the age of 4 will be admitted at no charge.

For more information, call Henigin at 724-628-1350.
