Convicted murderer denied application for appeal

1 min read

The state Superior Court has denied an application from Avery Lavon Pritchett of Jefferson requesting re-argument or reconsideration of his appeal of his third-degree murder conviction, which the court previously denied. Pritchett, 21, was convicted in the strangulation death of his 18-year-old girlfriend, Vicki Kennedy, in September 2004 during an argument in an abandoned house in Jefferson.

He pleaded guilty in August 2005 and was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in state prison, the maximum for third-degree murder, in October 2005. Greene County Judge H. Terry Grimes imposed the sentence.

Superior Court denied his appeal of his conviction in August and, on Tuesday, denied his application for re-argument or reconsideration.
