Man struck, killed in parking lot
NORTH BELLE VERNON – A 78-year-old North Belle Vernon man was killed after being run over in the National City Bank parking lot located at 433 Broad Ave., officials said. John Stura of Henry Street was pronounced dead in the Monongahela Valley Hospital emergency room at 2 p.m. Monday, according to Washington County Coroner Timothy Warco.
According to Warco’s office, Stura had parked his vehicle in the bank parking lot and was walking toward the bank when he was struck be a vehicle driven by an unidentified person.
The unidentified person was backing his or her vehicle out of a parking space when the accident happened around 1:30 p.m., a report from Warco’s office stated.
The report stated that the person allegedly panicked after initially hitting Stura and hit the gas pedal and brake at the same time.
Stura, according to Warco, was pulled up under the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency crews.
Warco listed the cause of death as multiple blunt force trauma and said the manner of death is pending investigation.
The North Belle Vernon Police Department is investigating the incident, Warco said.
No further information was available Monday night.
