AG school district sued by family over sex allegations
A Fayette County girl and her family has sued Albert Gallatin Area School District, claiming officials ignored warnings about a teacher state police allege was having sex with her. Attorney Thomas W. Shaffer filed the suit Tuesday in Fayette County Court against the district and teacher Donald J. Rosie. In the suit, Shaffer claimed the district was warned about Rosie’s conduct with female students, but did not investigate the allegations.
Rosie, currently suspended, is charged with a single count of corruption of minors for allegedly having sex with the 16-year-old girl whose family is listed as plaintiffs in the suit. The girl was of the age of consent, but the charge alleges that Rosie, 55, of South Union Township, corrupted her morals.
The Herald-Standard has not identified the girl or her mother because she is an alleged victim of sexual assault.
Shaffer, in his suit, claimed that district officials received complaints about how Rosie interacted with female students, but did not specify what any of those complaints were.
“There’s a strong possibility that there may be other minor plaintiffs added to this complaint,” Shaffer said Wednesday.
There have not been any additional criminal charges filed against Rosie, who waived a preliminary hearing in the criminal matter to Fayette County Court last month.
The alleged victim reported to police on June 28 that she and Rosie had a sexual relationship that started in March. They allegedly had sex inside Rosie’s car at his Clinton Road home.
Rosie taught the girl in sixth grade, and the two started up a friendship in November 2005, police said.
