Fayette County designates official food bank
The Fayette County Community Action Agency (FCCAA) Food Bank has been designated by the Fayette County Commissioners as Fayette County’s official site for collection and the distribution of foods for those in need. Last year the site distributed more than 1.8 million pounds of food.
This year, a challenge between Chestnut Ridge Rotary and Uniontown Rotary has been once again established. Uniontown Rotary will sponsor one weekend with volunteers and Chestnut Ridge will sponsor another weekend.
The Fayette County Community Action Agency Food Bank will be able to weigh the food collected at the end of each day to determine the winner of the challenge.
Fall Food Share is a food drive coordinated by the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Giant Eagle. The food drive is in its fourth year and has experienced its most successful food drive since Uniontown Rotary and Chestnut Ridge Rotary have posed the challenge. All food and monetary donations that are collected directly benefits Fayette County residents in need.
This year, Fall Food Share 2006 will take place on Saturday and Sunday and again on Nov. 5 and 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Uniontown Giant Eagle.
Volunteers will hand out shopping lists to all customers with suggested item(s) to purchase for those in need.
Monetary donations are also accepted.
