Water shutoff today Customers of the North Fayette County Municipal Authority living on Furnace Hill and Hardy Hill in Dunbar Township will have their public water service interrupted from 8 to 8:30 a.m. today.
The authority advises customers to store water prior to the shutoff for the use during the interruption because discolored and cloudy water will occur Saturday into Sunday.
The authority also asks that customers refrain from doing laundry during this period.
Any questions or concerns should be directed to the authority by calling 724-626-1211 or 724- 438-7361.
In the event of inclement weather, the authority will conduct the water interruption the same day between 3 and 3:30 p.m. instead.
Wecht to speak
Westmoreland County Community College will present “An Evening with Dr. Cyril Wecht” at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 15, in the Science Hall theater on the Youngwood campus.
Wecht, who hold degrees in medicine and law, works as a forensic pathologist, attorney and medical-legal consultant. Nationally acclaimed for his expertise in forensic medicine, Wecht has frequently appeared on national television programs discussing various medical, legal and forensic scientific issues, including medical malpractice, drug abuse, the assassinations of both President John F. Kennedy and Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, the death of Elvis Presley, the O.J. Simpson case and the JonBenet Ramsey case.
Wecht has written about his involvement in these and other high-profile cases in three books, “Tales from the Morgue,” “Grave Secrets” and “Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey?”
Wecht will discuss these and other cases during his WCCC presentation, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session.

Dinner, shoot planned
CALIFORNIA – The California Area Band Association is holding a fall steak and shoot fund-raiser on Sunday, Nov. 5, at the California Hill Gun Club.
The cost per person is $60. Cost includes 100 clay bird-sporting clays, 25 clays from stand, catered steak dinner and door prizes. Registration is from 8 to 9 a.m.
Doughnuts and coffee will be served. Warm-up shooting starts at 8 a.m., shooting at 9 a.m. and last shooter out at 10 a.m.
Dinner, served at approximately 12:30 p.m., and an auction, starting at approximately 1:30 p.m., are open to the public. Mulligans cost $5 each with a limit of three per person. Drawings, awards and an auction will follow dinner.

First Baptist Church of Lamberton is hosting “Women of the Bible’ program at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, with a repast following the service. The Rev. Beverly Harris is pastor. Deacon is Robert Ford.
Water shutoff Monday
Southwestern Pennsylvania Water Authority will have the water shut off in the Republic and Merrittstown areas in Redstone Township from 9 a.m. until about 2 p.m. Monday to upgrade the system. Customers may experience low pressure or no water and are advised to keep some containers of water to minimize the outage, the authority said.
Trick-or-treat set
LUZERNE TWP. – Trick-or-treat for Luzerne Township will be held Saturday, Oct. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Adults should accompany children under the age of 12. Participants should leave their porch light on.
VFW district meeting set
District 23 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies Auxiliary will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at Faith Gray McArdie VFW Post 4584 in Masontown.
According to organizers, District 23 comprises Fayette and Somerset counties.
Organizers said the following issues will be addressed at the meeting: plans will be finalized for the Veterans Day parade slated for Nov. 1l; updates will be given on the Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen Program; membership reports will be given for the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary; and arrangements will be completed for the Scotland School Christmas Party.
Cmdr. James Stois and President Lazetta Sidwell urge all posts and auxiliaries to have representation at the meeting.
LH to hold review
According to federal No Child Left Behind legislation, paraprofessionals employed by the Laurel Highlands School District must be highly qualified.
To meet this requirement, the person must have earned two years of college credit, an associate degree or higher or have passed a state Department of Education-approved test in the areas of reading, English and math.
Review sessions for the test will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, and Thursday, Nov. 2. It is recommended that those interested attend both review sessions because different material will be presented each night.
To reserve a seat for the review sessions and test, prospective applicants should send a letter of interest to Beverly Bieniek, director of pupil personnel services, Laurel Highlands School District, 304 Bailey Ave., Uniontown, Pa. 15401.
Include a check or money order for $25 made out to the Laurel Highlands School District. The fee will be refunded to the applicant after taking the test.
