Hazel M. Murphy
Hazel M. Murphy, 86, of Connellsville, Pa., passed away peacefully, Tuesday, October 24, 2006, in her home, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 23, 1919, in New Alexandria a daughter of the late Clarence H. and Mary Kepple Frye.
Hazel was raised in New Alexandria. She was a graduate of the Westmoreland Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse for the former Connellsville State General Hospital and Dr. Cam T. Troilo in Connellsville. Later along with her late husband Francis “Bud” Murphy, Hazel founded the longtime Connellsville landmark Bud Murphy’s Sports Bar and Restaurant. Hazel and Bud owned and operated the bar and restaurant for many years as it became known as the “meeting place” in Connellsville. They enjoyed meeting and greeting the countless number of friends that came to “Bud’s” to eat and share good times. After her retirement, Hazel was a member of the Catholic Women’s Bowling League where she met many cherished friends. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and taking trips with her many special friends. Hazel was a member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Connellsville. As Hazel and Bud did throughout their lives together, Hazel continued to support the local community in many ways. Her class and generosity will be greatly missed. The family would like to specially thank the Albert Gallatin Hospice Nurses and her care givers Ida Basinger and Catherine Lee for their kind and loving care during Hazel’s illness.
Hazel is survived by her loving family, her daughter, Robin Bubarth and husband, Robert of Connellsville; her grandchildren: Robert Bubarth and wife, Judy of Hunker, Mark Bubarth and wife, Sunshine of Connellsville and Barbe Henry of Connellsville, her nine great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Hazel was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents Hazel was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years Francis “Bud” Murphy in 1994, a sister Mildred Kull and a brother, Clarence Frye Jr.
Family and friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 East Green Street, Connellsville, Pa., where a Blessing Service will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., in the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, with Rev. Terry Hercik as Celebrant. A Committal Service and Interment will follow in the Saint Joseph’s Cemetery. A Parish Wake Service will be held Friday at 8:45 p.m. in the funeral home.homes.com.
