Charles “Lindy” Lindbergh Deems, 79, of Coal Center, Pa., died , Wednesday at 2 p.m., October 25, 2006, in his home. He was born June 11, 1927, in West Pike Run Township, Clover Hill, a son of the late John Nelson and Sarah Margaret Wergin Deems.

Mr. Deems was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and the Occupation of Japan. He also served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post 705 of Centerville.

He was a member of Trustee of the Grace United Methodist Church. A 30 year member and past president of the Beallsville, Centerville and Richeyville Lions Club and was a Melvin Jones fellow recipient. He was a former Supervisor of West Pike Run Township and a member of the former West Pike Run Garage.

On November 14, 1952, he married Clara Harris Deems who survives.

Also surviving is a daughter, Connie Palfrey and husband, Frank of Coal Center; a son, Charles Lynn Deems of Coal Center; three grandsons: Frank Palfrey, Jr. and his wife, Suzanne of Indiana, Pa., Eric Palfrey of Summerville, W.Va., and Lyndon Palfrey and his wife, Natalie of McMurray, Pa.; one granddaughter, Cara Palfrey of Clover Hill, Pa.; four great-grandchildren: Lily, Sadie, Tyler and Avery Palfrey; two brothers: Eugene Deems of Beallsville, Pa.; and Darrell Deems and his wife, Jane of Scenery Hill, Pa., five sisters: Wanda Colvin and her husband, Raymond of Charleroi, Pa., Edie Sosnak and her husband, Bernard of Coal Center, Pa., Norma Dennis of Monongahela, Pa., Kaye Mowrey and her husband, John of Bethel Park, Pa., and Karen Walsh and her husband, Charles of Annapolis, Md.; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to his parents, is a brother, John N. “Bud” Deems, Jr., who died September 6, 2006.

Friends were received from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday and will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday in the JOHN B. GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, Pa., where services will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, October 28, 2006, with Pastor Randy Landman officiating.

Interment will be in the Beallsville Cemetery, Beallsville, Pa.

Full graveside military rites will be accorded by the Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post 705 of Centerville.

BCR Lions Club will hold a service on Friday, October 27, 2006, at 7:25 p.m.
