Joan D. “JoAnn” Miller
Joan D. “JoAnn” Miller, 73, of Connellsville, Pa., died Thursday, October 26, 2006, in her home. She was born December 26, 1932, in Pittsburgh a daughter of the late James DeClemente who died in 1986 and the late Julia Dominic DeClemente who died in 1994.
She was a lifelong resident of Connellsville and she graduated from Connellsville High School, Class of 1950. She worked for the A&P Tea Co. for 25 years and she also was owner and operator of J. Miller Market for many years. Mrs. Miller was the first woman to be elected to City Council in Connellsville serving from 1976 to 1983. She was a member of the Fayette County Democratic Executive Committee since 1978. She was a committeewoman for the South Side Fifth Ward for 25 years. She was the Democratic City chairperson since 1983. She was a member of Saint Rita’s Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville and its Christian Mothers. She was also a member of the O.S.I.A. Women’s Auxiliary and the O.S.I.A. Bowling League for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Class of 1950 monthly meeting group, the “Fabulous Fifties” and the Highlands Hospital Breast Cancer Support Group. JoAnn loved to play bridge.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer J. “Bucky” Miller; two sons: Jay V. Miller and his wife, Cindy of South Connellsville, and Jan Joseph Miller and his wife, Shelley of Waynesburg; one grandson, Taylor Evan Miller; and two granddaughters: Lauren Miller and Jourdan Miller.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Guy “Frank” and Teresa DeClemente, who reared her.
There will be no public viewing or visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Monday in SAINT RITA’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, Connellsville, Pa. with the Rev. Lawrence Manchas as Celebrant.
Interment will be private.
The family suggests donations be made to Saint Rita’s Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville or to the American Cancer Society in memory of Joan D. “JoAnn” Miller.
