Woodrow “Babe” Hughes
Woodrow “Babe” Hughes, 89, of Point Marion, Pa., died Thursday, October 26, 2006, in his home. He was born December 28, 1916, in Bessemer, Pa., a son of the late Chauncey and Mary Ann Fisher Hughes.
He was a coal miner, retiring from United States Steel’s Robena Mine in 1979, a member of the U.M.W.A. and a social member of the American Legion and VFW Posts in Point Marion.
Surviving is his wife of 69 years, Bertha King Hughes who he married on May 17, 1937; his children and their spouses: Lonnie, Sr. and Helen Hughes of Olivia, North Carolina, Woody, Jr. and Karen Hughes, Dewey F. and Debbie Hughes, Robert W. and Janice Hughes, Faye Ellen and Joseph Burnette, and Lonnie Jr., and Terry Hughes, all of Point Marion; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was the youngest and last surviving member of his immediate family of 12 children.
Friends will be received in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday until 11 a.m., the hour of service with the Rev. David Lee Corob officiating.
Interment will follow in Wolf’s Cemetery, Dilliner, Pa.
