Andrew S. Bandzuch
Andrew S. “Nine Ball” Bandzuch, age 88, of Uniontown, Pa., died Thursday, October 26, 2006, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born February 17, 1918, in Oliphant Furnace, Fayette County, Pa., the son of Andrew “Andy” Bandzuch Sr. and Elizabeth Hosa Bandzuch.
He was a veteran of World War II who served in the United States Army.
Andrew was a coal miner who had worked in the mines at Kyle and Robena and retired from United States Steel’s Maple Creek Mine after 40 years. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Maple Creek Local.
He was a member of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church in Fairchance where he served as an usher and head usher for many years. Also, he was a member of the Alfred L. Wilson Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7219, Fairchance, American Legion Post 51 in Uniontown, the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 in Hopwood, Pa., and the Hutchinson Sportsmen’s Club.
He was an avid baseball fan and, in his younger years, he was a player in the local ball teams, including the Oliphant Furnace team.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers and sisters, John Fedor, Albert Fedor, Joseph Fedor, John Banjo, Ann Banjo Ferlin, Helen Shanaberger, Thomas Bandzuch and William Bandzuch. He was the last surviving member of his parent’s immediate family.
Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Adamik Bandzuch; close sisters-in-law: Theresa Petruska and her husband, Steve, Frances Bandzuch and Helen Kmetz; nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., today (Monday, October 30) from noon until 1:30 p.m. when a Blessing Service will be held.
A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 2 p.m. in Ss. Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Fairchance, with the Rev. Father Andrew M. Kawecki as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, Fairchance, where Military Rites will be accorded by the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103.
Visitation was also held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
American Legion Post 51 held a Service in the Funeral Home on Sunday at 2:15 p.m.
Christian Mothers recited the Rosary in the Funeral Home on Sunday at 7:45 p.m.
A Parish Wake Service was held on Sunday at 8:45 p.m.
