Andy Sholtis Jr., age 97, of Continental Two, Uniontown, Pa., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 25, 2006, with his loving family by his side. He was born on November 1, 1908, in Oliphant Furnace, Fayette County, Pa., the oldest son of Barbara Bacha Sholtis and Andy Sholtis Sr.

Andy was a lifelong member of Saint John The Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church and was one of the oldest members of the Church.

For many years worked as a miner, truck diver and farmer.

He was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America.

Family came first to “Pap” and he was always there with loving support.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary C. Sholtis on January 14, 1986, his loving daughters, Barbara Ann Keener on October 20, 2006, and Mary Kay Sholtis on April 8, 1953, infant grandson, Robert Sholtis, sisters, Anna Sholtis Dursa and Margaret Sholtis Horwath, brothers, Frank Sholtis, Mike Sholtis, George Sholtis and Joseph Sholtis, and his parents.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving children: Andrew Lee Sholtis and wife, Donna, of Uniontown, Pa., Bernadette Ptak and husband, John, of Uniontown, Pa., and Frederick Keener of Fairchance, Pa.; his grandchildren of whom he was so very proud: Andrew Keener, Matthew Keener and wife, Alexandra, Andrea Sholtis and Maria Sholtis; brother, John Sholtis and wife, Blanche, of Fairchance, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Toni Maraldo, his caregiver at Mountain View, for her compassionate and loving care and also the staff at Three Rivers Family Hospice for their support.

Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 680 Cherry Tree Lane, Uniontown, Pa., today (Monday, October 20) until 10 a.m. when a Panachida Service will be held.

Divine Liturgy follows at 11 a.m. in Saint John The Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, East Main Street, with the Rev. Father Thomas J. Wesdock as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in Saint John Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Hopwood, Pa.

Visitation was also held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m.

Parastas Service was held in the Funeral Home on Sunday at 7 p.m.
