Samuel Edward Ford
Samuel Edward Ford of Birch Hollow Road, Cheat Lake, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 2, 2006. He was born April 9, 1926, in Morgantown, West Virginia, the son of Benjamin Franklin Ford and Caterine Jane Huntley Ford.
He was Apostolic by faith. He was a member of the Hope Church.
“Sam” was employed by West Virginia University’s Livestock farms for 44 years in the Animal Veterinarian Science Department.
He lived on the farm for 38 years, holding job titles from Farm Laborer, Cattle Herdsman and Farm Supervisor. He loved West Virginia University and enjoyed being a big part of students’ education.
On February 3, 1987, Samuel Edward Ford was presented “The Salute to Service Award” by the West Virginia Radio Corporation for the longest consecutive years of employment by West Virginia University where, at that time, he had worked for 42 years. First Federal Savings and Loan of Morgantown joined the radio corporation in honoring Samuel Ford. The presentation helped mark the beginning of the West Virginia University Employee Week and the 120th birthday of West Virginia University.
“Sam” was a Founding Member of the Cheat Lake Lions Club, which was founded in 1991.
He loved people and helping people. He will be sadly missed by all his family and church family! He loved God with all his heart and was a great example to all who knew him.
“Sam” was preceded in death by his parents, by his beloved wife, Delores June Everly Ford on May 17, 1988, by three brothers, James Henry Ford, Carl Floyd Ford and Alex Ward Ford, and by one sister, Minnie Leona Ford.
He is survived by four children: three daughters, Lovinda Sheets and her husband, Argyle, of Morgantown, West Virginia, Vicki Gillespie and her husband, Dale, with whom he made his home on Birch Hollow Road at Cheat Lake, and Candi Baxter, and one son, Clifford James Ford and his wife, Julie, all of Birch Hollow Road, Cheat Lake; two sisters: Mrs. Ralph Jacks (“Etta”) of Gainesville, Florida, and Mrs. Ralph Childs (“Iona”) of Trotwood, Ohio; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, September 5, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the HASTINGS FUNERAL HOME INC., 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, West Virginia 26505 (304-292-8664).
The body will be moved and lie in state at HOPE CHURCH on Hornbeck Road (junction of I-79 and I-68) on Wednesday, September 6, from 9 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 10 a.m. with the Rev. M. A. Donham officiating.
Burial will follow at the Ford Family Cemetery on Birch Hollow Road, Cheat Lake.
