Harry A. French, 86, of Smithfield, Pa., passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2006, at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Smithfield, Pa., on November 10, 1919, son of the now late Louis French and Cathrine Shillenburger French.

He attended the Oak Grove Christian Church in Lake Lynn for many years.

He was a retired coal miner from Humphrey Mine and a member of the United Mine Workers of America District 31, and Local Union 1058.

He was a veteran of World War II having served in the South Pacific and he belonged to the Point Marion Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 747 and Point Marion American Legion Post 499.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth Yost French in 2004, sisters and brothers, Elsie Matz, Joe French, Frank French and Louise Emerick.

He is survived by one son, Chuck L. French and wife Candy Verbus French; brothers and sisters, Kathryn Chess and husband Raymond, Lloyd French and wife Elizabeth, Marge Hearn and husband Ray, all of Smithfield, Pa.; three granddaughters, Jillian French and husband Ivan Ceballos of Bethel Park, Pittsburgh Pa. and Sara and Abbey, both at home.

The family will receive friends in the JOHN F. BROWNFIELD FUNERAL HOME OF SMITHFIELD, PA, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday until 11 a.m., when services will be conducted with the Rev. Scott Teets, Pastor of Fallen Timbers Chapel, officiating.

Interment will follow in Pleasant View I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Smithfield, Pa.
