John E. Sofranko

John E. Sofranko, 76, of Akron, Ohio, died on August 29, 2006, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Mach 18, 1930, in Perryopolis, Pa., son of Anna and Jacob Sofranko. His parents, wife, Marjorie, brothers, Joseph and Richard Sofranko, and sisters, Ann Sofranko, and Mary Rathway, preceded him in death.

John was a graduate of Uniontown High School Class of 1948, and attended Waynesburg College and West Virginia University. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, and was employed as a draftsman for Firestone for 42 years. He loved to read history, and kept up on current events in the newspaper.

John was a devoted father, grandfather and brother.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Jacob Sofranko, Lisa Richardson and husband, Michael, Mora Jones and husband, Ed, Jennifer Sofranko, and Leslie Elliott; sisters: Margaret Crofcheck, and Helen Emricko and husband, John; sister-in-law, Cecelia Sofranko; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial and Committal Service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2006, in the Mount Saint Macrina Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel at 10 a.m., with Rev. Father Micah E. Kozoil officiating.

Interment will follow in Mount Saint Macrina Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded.

Local arrangements are under the direction of STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME, A Dignity Memorial Provider.
