De Lloyd J. ‘Del’ Risk
De Lloyd J. “Del” Risk, 88, of Kirkland Village, Bethlehem, Pa., died Saturday, September 9, 2006, in Saint Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Betty M. (Snyder) Risk, who died in 2003.
A graduate of Uniontown High School, he attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated from Uniontown Business School.
He began his career with the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, in 1946, as a buyer located in Bethlehem until moving to Baltimore where he was district purchasing manager from 1955 to 1975. He returned to Bethlehem in 1975 and served as manager of district offices, stores and reclamation until retiring in 1982.
He served in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1942 to 1946 in the European Theatre of Operations, for which he received five bronze stars. He landed on Omaha Beach on D-day plus three, and went across Europe as far as Czechoslovakia.
He was born in Uniontown, Pa., a son of the late Joseph and Edith (Jose) Risk.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem and Saucon Valley Country club. He served as executive director of Valley Volunteers from 1982 to 1986, as trustee and past president of the Bethlehem Senior Citizens Council and as past president of Kirkland Village Resident’s Council. He was a member of H. Stanley Goodwin Lodge 648, F. & A.M. and the Lehigh Consistory.
Surviving are a son, Warren and his wife, Judy of Hanover, Pa.; a daughter, Delayne McWilliams of Saint Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great great-granddaughter.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the KIRKLAND VILLAGE AUDITORIUM, BETHLEHEM, Pa.
