Masontown Youth Center The Power Plant Youth Center, sponsored by local area churches, is open to the children and youths of Masontown. Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 are open for children up to grade five.

On Friday nights, the Youth Center is open from 7 to 9:30 for youth in grades 6 to 12. However, the youth center will not open in September unless volunteers (both youth and adults) step forward to help with general cleaning and light repairs. Prayer Service

The Klondike Clergy Association of Masontown and other area ministerial groups are sponsoring a prayer service for the educators of the Albert Gallatin Area School District. The prayer service will take place today at 4 p.m. at the Masontown United Methodist Church at Main and Cross streets. The service will be brief, lasting about a half hour. Light refreshments will follow.

The community at large is invited to attend and pray for and with the teachers as well. For more information, contact the Rev. Bob Lewis at 724-583-9207.

United Methodist Church

The Masontown United Methodist Church goes to its fall schedule today. Sunday morning worship is at 11.

The church will celebrate “Kick-Off Sunday,” focusing on its many Christian education classes. Adult Sunday school class and the Pastor’s Class for youth in grades 6 to 12 will take place on Sundays at 9:45 a.m. Classes for children in the younger grades will take place on Thursday afternoons and the program is being called Bible Club. It is open for children from pre-school to fifth grade, featuring games, crafts, food, music and lessons about the Christian faith. The format is similar to vacation Bible school than traditional Sunday school and is open to the entire community. The youth group meets on Sunday evenings at 7 for youth in grades 6 to 12. Bible Study is offered on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the church social hall. The fall class is titled “Leadership from the Heart.”

Senior Center

The participants in the Masontown Senior Center enjoyed “Senior Day” at the Fayette County Fair. The group received a second-place ribbon for most attending. Mary Springer won third place in the leg contest, and Agnes Kormanik won a cake in the cakewalk. Each one received a small gift of a rain hat, a water bottle and ice cream treat. Mary Springer also participated in the spelling bee.

The group was busy with dartball games scheduled the first week of September. Virginia McCann led a Bible trivia game and food distribution was held on Aug. 16. Thanks went to Dr. Bartlett who paid a visit and took blood pressures.

Carol Quarrick spoke on shingles and an appreciation dinner was held for the dartball players, with 50 guests in attendance.

The birthday celebration was held on Aug. 31 with one guest at the birthday table, Shirley Rhodes. She received a lottery ticket.

Everyone is looking forward to a new dartball season, flea markets, programs, bingo, good food and fellowship. New members and guests are always welcomes.

Car show, hog roast

The 35th annual car show and hog roast will be held, rain or shine, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Fireman’s Field in McClellandtown.

The McClellandtown Fire Department, National City Bank and the Summit Mountain Early Iron Club will sponsor the event.

The firemen and car club members will offer roasted hog sandwiches, hot sausages sandwiches, hot dogs, french fries, beverages and desserts.

Entertainment will be offered by Joe’s Dusty Discs. A Chinese auction will also be held. Registration is by donation, with all proceeds benefiting the fire department. There is no admission fee.

Friends of Library

The Friends of the German-Masontown Library will meet at noon Wednesday at the Lardin House Inn on Route 21. If you are not already a member or have been inactive, please consider joining. After the business meeting, each member will order his/her own lunch from the menu.

Cash bash

All Saints Regional School will hold a cash bash on Sept. 30 at the All Saints Social Hall. Tickets are $20. Guests are $10. Five-hundred dollars will be given away every 15 minutes with a $4,000 grand prize given away at 11 p.m.

Free food and refreshments will be available. Doors open at 6 p.m. The first drawing is at 7 p.m. Winners need not be present. For more information, call the school at 724-583-2141.

Hog roast

A hog roast will be held on Sept. 24 on the parish grounds at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Church, 50 Morgantown St., Fairchance. There will be food, refreshments, a Chinese auction, bake sale and entertainment. A D.J. will be playing from noon to 3:30 and a live band will perform from 4 to 8 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
