Fairchance-Georges Sewage Authority voted to relocate sewer lines
FAIRCHANCE – The Fairchance-Georges Sewage Authority voted Monday to pay Kukurin Contracting Inc. $87,082 to relocate sewer lines along Mountain Road. The authority agreed to pay Kukurin $60,000 during last month’s meeting. However, board members agreed to pass a resolution to the amendment at Monday’s meeting after authority engineer Bruce Chambers reported the company would be unable to complete the project at that cost.
Chambers, of Gaydos-Chambers Associates Inc., said the project may not cost $87,082 and that the authority would only be required to pay up to that amount, if need be.
As for other matters, board members discussed the possibility of adopting an ordinance that would allow the authority to impose a daily fine on people who have delinquent and outstanding sewage bills.
Delinquent and unpaid bills amount to anywhere from an estimated $4,000 to $5,000 a month, or about $54,000 a year.
In addition, board members also spent several minutes discussing whether garage floor drains should be allowed to enter the sewage system.
The current ordinance does not allow roof, driveway or French drains or “any other non-sanitary source” to flow into the sewer system.
The authority decided that connected, “tucked-in” garage drains would be permitted since basement drains are currently allowed to flow into the sewer system.
As for other business, Chambers reported sewage treatment plant upgrade work is ongoing and that a light is needed at the pump station.
The authority agreed to pay $400 to have a halogen light installed at the pump station. The light will cost $1,200. Contractors will split the remaining cost of $800, Chambers said.
The next sewage authority meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 9 in the Fairchance Borough municipal building.
