By Rebekah Sungala 2 min read

GEORGES TWP. – Georges Township supervisors announced Thursday that the township’s annual clean-up week would be held Oct. 2-6. Supervisor Mike Bartock said the service is free to all residents.

During clean-up week, Bartock said residents will be permitted to discard of objects not normally picked up with the regular garbage.

Bartock said people should put the items outside along the curb with their garbage, adding that items such as paint, tires and batteries are not allowed. Other prohibited items include shingles, vehicle tires, construction debris and automobile parts.

In other matters Thursday, the supervisors announced the Fayette County Election Bureau would hold a voting seminar for people unsure of how to use the new electronic voting machines at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Smithfield Community Center.

More information about the county’s voting system or the upcoming seminar can be obtained by visiting www.FayetteVotes.org or by calling 724-430-1289.

In an unrelated matter, the supervisors accepted Dennis Eicher’s resignation as township auditor effective Aug. 31.

Bartock said Eicher resigned after accepting a new job that prohibits him from holding an elected office.

Supervisors also conducted the following business:

– Awarded a contract to Chemung Supply Co. of Carlisle for pipe.

– Accepted a bid from Walsh Equipment Co., which offered $2,500 for the township’s used tractor.

– Authorized an agreement between the township and Parkvale bank for the financing of a John Deere 5525 tractor mower.
