John W. Yowler
John W. Yowler, 89, of West Leisenring, Pa., passed away Thursday, September 21, 2006, in Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa., with his wife and family at his bedside. He was born February 14, 1917, in Cove Run, Pa., son of the late John A. and Jessie B. Palmer Yowler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, John W. Yowler, Jr., brothers, Charles, Glen and Alvin Yowler, sisters, Nellie McVey, Viola Yowler and Doris Layton.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Drexler Yowler; children: Karen Yowler West and husband, Charles (Jim) West of Shade Gap, David Yowler and wife, Debbie of Chambersburg, Norman Yowler and wife, Sheila of Uniontown and Robin Yowler Speeney and Robert Murphy of Scottdale; eight grandchildren: Jeff West and wife, Nicole of Shade Gap, Mike West and wife, Trudy of Saltillo, Kevin West and wife, Hailey of Mount Union, Brian Yowler and wife, Tracy of Beaver Falls, Wendy Yowler Adams and husband, Ronald of Frederick, Maryland, Tara Bennett of Uniontown, Brittany Teets of Scottdale and Storm John Yowler of Uniontown; and many great-grandchildren.
Mr. Yowler retired after 36 years with the United States Steel, Robena Preparation Plant. He served with the United States Army in the African Theater during World War II in North Africa, Sicily, Switzerland and Italy. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 47, West Leisenring Fire Department where he served as the last surviving charter member, Moose 20, an honorary member of Juniata Sportsmen’s Club and the National Rifle Association.
Friends will be received in the DOLFI FUNERAL HOME, Uniontown, Pa., this evening, September 23, 2006, from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday, September 25, 2006, from 9 to 10 a.m. the hour of Service with the Rev. Galen Winebrenner officiating.
Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
Military Rites will be accorded by the V.F.W. Post 47.
