Authority discusses plans for Uniontown bluegrass festival
The Uniontown Downtown Business District Authority discussed plans Wednesday for its first-ever bluegrass festival scheduled for Oct. 14 from 1 to 7 p.m. The hoedown, which will feature a square dancing demonstration and five bluegrass bands, will be held in the VFW Post 47 parking lot along Main Street.
Acting DBDA director Judy Vrabel said the portion of Main Street near the VFW might be closed to traffic for the event.
Entertainment begins at 1 p.m. with an hour-long square dancing demonstration followed by the bands, which will also perform for an hour each.
Full Steam Ahead takes the stage at 2 p.m., Mid Life Crisis at 3 p.m., Remnants at 4 p.m., Mountain View Bluegrass at 5 p.m. and the Get-er-Dun Boys at 6 p.m.
The VFW will be selling beverages in addition to seven food vendors that will be selling food outside.
In unrelated business, the board briefly discussed Arts in the City, which was held Sunday, and the Storey Square Summer Concert Series, which ended Aug. 28.
Board members said both events were successful.
Vrabel said a windstorm early in the day during Arts in the City blew over some of the artists’ and vendors’ tents.
Board member Tim Grindle said some artists were not happy with the red tents because the sunlight that shined through made their creations look red.
“I think Storey Square was a huge success,” Vice Chairman Brian Ludy said,
Board member Jeff DiMaio said the DBDA earned about $500 from the series.
Vrabel said people who attended the weekly events were surveyed, but the surveys have not yet been reviewed.
She and Ludy said the evening performances seemed to be very popular.
In other business, the board agreed to ask city council to designate the DBDA as the coordinator and contact for all downtown activities.
