Woman sentenced for embezzlement

By The 1 min read

A Washington County woman was sentenced to spend 15 months in a federal prison for embezzling nearly $50,000 from employers. Senior U.S. District Judge Maurice Cohill imposed the prison term and also ordered Evalyn McKinney, 36, of 84 South California Drive in Coal Center to serve three years of supervised release following her imprisonment.

Federal prosecutors alleged she used credit card number and forged checks from three area employers, none of which were identified in the indictment filed against her. McKinney will have to make $47,906.98 in restitution for the thefts, which occurred in 2004.

The indictment does list 15 credit card charges or forged checks at various points from March through June of 2004. Most involve checks at National City Bank, ranging from $300 to $900.

The Financial Crimes Task Force of Southwestern Pennsylvania and the South Fayette Township Police Department arrested McKinney earlier this year
