Bridge work set
PennDOT District 12 is restricting traffic to a single lane Rehoboth Church Road over Lutz Run in Washington Township. The restriction will be in place until further notice.
The single lane traffic will be controlled by stop signs which will be located on both sides of the bridge and will require motorists traveling in both directions to stop and take turns crossing the bridge.
The single lane bridge restriction is due to the results of an inspection which indicated the need for a single lane restriction in order to allow the current 15 Ton posting to continue on the bridge.
Blood drive slated
Central Blood Bank has announced a replenishment blood drive for 2-year-old Olivia Perinis. The drive is scheduled for Monday at St. John the Baptist Parish in Perryopolis from 1 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Perinis, a Down syndrome child, was recently diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML), which develops in patients when there is a defect in the immature cells in the bone marrow. Simply, the body does not produce enough healthy blood cells. Eight thousand people in the United States are diagnosed with AML annually, however only 500 are children. AML is a type of leukemia that generally strikes an adult.
Since her diagnosis, Perinis has been receiving chemotherapy treatments and numerous transfusions of platelets and red blood at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Olivia is the daughter of George and Tracy (Warnick) Perinis and the granddaughter of Nancy (Warnick) Jodon. Like most two year olds, she loves music and books. Her favorites are Dr. Seuss books, and adores Elmo.
Family and friends are sponsoring this drive to replenish the blood she has used and will continue to use throughout the coming months of treatment.
Those who are interested in donating should contact Tracy and George Perinis at 724-837-3974 or Central Blood Bank at 1-866-DONORS-1 (-1-866-366-6771).
Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health. Proper ID is required to donate blood. A Central Blood Bank or military ID, driver’s license, or employee badge with picture and full name are all approved forms of ID.
Established in 1951, Central Blood Bank (CBB) is a Pittsburgh-based not-for-profit organization providing blood products and related transfusion services to over 40 hospitals in Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Crawford, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Washington and Westmoreland Counties in Pennsylvania, as well as selected communities in northern West Virginia.
