Nathaniel ‘Jake’ Walter Dantzler Sr.
He was also a charter member of Interfaith Assembly for Christ Church and lifelong member of American Legion Post 824, Buffington, Pa. Upon graduating from German Township Senior High School, he spent two years working alongside his father in the coalmine, where upon he enlisted in the Army in World War II from 1944 to 1946. Afterwards, he would reenter the coalmine (Robena) and work for another 20 years. At which time he decided to take classes offered and upon completion he took the position of Assistant Mine Foreman. There he would spend the remainder of his time as he was also one of the first black mine foremen hired by United States Steel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eary Marcella Dantzler, one son, Rodney, two brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are sons: Nathaniel Jr. (Nikki) of Uniontown, Gregory (Marian) of Leckrone and daughter, Jacqueline McLee (Marny) of Dover, Delaware; five grandchildren: Marcella Dantzler, Gregory Dantzler II, Marny McLee II, Jade McLee and Andria Dantzler; three sisters: AnaBelle Cooper of California, Elenor White of New York, and Dolores Wolfe of North Carolina; three brothers: Charles Dantzler (Laura) of Buffington, Howard Dantzler (Dorothy) of Smithfield and Fredrick Dantzler of Footdale, Pa.; numerous nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.
Friends will be received in the MURIEL E. LANTZ FUNERAL HOME, 297 East Main Street, Uniontown, Pa., on Wednesday, April 4, 2007, from 5 to 9 p.m., and on Thursday April 5, 2007, until 11 a.m., the hour of service with Reverend Howard E. Dantzler Sr. officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, Pa.
