Luzerne to purchase to police car

LUZERNE TWP. – Luzerne Township Supervisors voted to purchase a new police vehicle for the department with a $25,000 grant, during a brief regular meeting Tuesday afternoon. The Department of Community and Economic Development grant came through the office of state Rep. H. William DeWeese (D-Waynesburg). The new police cruiser will have a light bar, cage and graphics.

In other matters, the supervisors announced the one day, hard to recycle drop off event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Fayette County Fairgrounds. The event is planned in cooperation with PA Cleanways and the Fayette County Office of Recycling and Solid Waste. Items being accepted include: used motor oil, tires, large steel appliances and old electronics. Household hazardous waste and paint cans are not being accepted.

The next regular meeting of the township supervisors is scheduled at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, in the township municipal building.
