Annual League of Cites meeting set for today
Uniontown is playing host to officials from 50 local municipalities today during the Pennsylvania League of Cities and Municipalities’ annual southwest district meeting. Many local businesses donated items for gifts and prizes that will be given away during a casual pre-meeting meet-and-greet session at the State Theatre Center for the Arts and at a dinner and the meeting that will be held at 30 East Main.
“Twenty-five local businesses were very generous,” said Uniontown City Clerk Kim Clay. “I can’t begin to thank them enough. Their generosity was overwhelming.”
When the League held the southwest district meeting in Uniontown three years ago, City Councilman Bob Cerjanec said the downtown revitalization work was in full swing and the city officials are now looking forward to displaying the fruits of that labor.
“We’re really promoting the downtown,” said Clay.
She said she encouraged attendees to park in the new garage on Penn Street so they could walk through Storey Square and stroll through town before the meet-and-greet begins at 5 p.m.
Hors d’oeuvres, donated by Fabrizi’s Restaurant, and a wine tasting will be going on during the hour-long meet-and-greet in the lobby of the theater.
At 30 East Main, which the league selected for the meeting, cocktails will be served at 6 p.m. and the dinner and meeting begin at 6:30 p.m.
Mayor James Sileo will be making an opening speech at the meeting.
The agenda for the meeting includes updates on legislation that affects municipalities, updates on League activities and election of officers. Resolutions regarding League policies could also be brought up at the meeting.
Sileo, city council members, Treasurer Susan Maher, Judy Vrabel, a secretary and acting director of the Downtown Business District Authority, Clay and secretary Bernee Coffin will represent the city.
Along with Uniontown, the municipalities that are members of the League’s southwest district are Pittsburgh, Connellsville, McKeesport, Washington, Latrobe, Monongahela, Monessen, Mount Lebanon, Upper St. Clair, Green Tree, Jeannette, Lower Burrell, Arnold, Clairton, Sewickley, New Kensington, Murrysville and Greensburg.
