Special event alert!

By Christine Haines 2 min read

Don’t expect the same old same old if you plan to head to Jamestown, Virginia for Anniversary Weekend May 11-13. This is the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in the Americas, and its a pretty big affair. Even ticketing is different for the weekend-a $30 ticket gets you into the newly expanded museum, outdoor exhibits and ships at Jamestown Settlement, the Natioanl Park historic site Old Jamestowne with its archeological site and constant entertainment at Anniversary Park, but only if you buy your tickets in advance.

No tickets will be sold on site for the weekend, and tickets are good only for a single day. The site will only be accessible by shuttle bus for the weekend as well.

So why put up with the extra hassles? Because they come with lots of extra benefits. First, if you do plan to see both the National Park site and the museum site, the special event combo ticket is cheaper than usual. Second, it comes with lots of extra hoopla like concerts by Bruce Hornsby, Chaka Khan, Ricky Skaggs, the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, and the special event concert by a 400-piece orchestra and 1,607 voice choir (you know, representing the 400th anniversary of the 1607 landing.)

There’s too much info to get into here, so check it out:
