Letter to Outdoors
Sportsmen thanked for support of Game Land 51 cleanup I would like to thank the many members of the Fayette County Sportsmen’s League and everybody else for the large turnout in cold windy weather on a holiday weekend to get the Game Lands 51 cleanup project done.
Fayette County Sheriff Gary Brownfield’s search and rescue team was there to help in the clean-up and present a seminar about search and rescue to the Boy Scouts from the Valley Sportsmen’s Club and Dunbar, after the cleanup.
State Rep. Deberah Kula, from the 52nd district, her husband Frank Kula Sr., son Frank Kula Jr. and Joe Beal came to help us.
Patrick Livingston and his son Patrick who lives in the Lemont area as well as their friends John Tabaj from the Dunbar area and North Union Twp Supervisor Rob Tupta helped out.
Vince Vicites, Fayette County commissioner was there as well as Robert L. Bigi from the Star Junction Fish and Game Club.
Vince Zapotosky also pitched in to help us.
I want to thank Commissioner Roxanne Palone for helping as well as Roca Ali, state president of the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsman Clubs.
I also want to thank Blaine Toy, southwest regional director for Unified Sportsman, and Brent Trillow from Turkeyfoot Fish and Game in Confluence.
Carl Williams from PA CleanWays and his assistant worked side-by-side with us.
Pennsylvania Game Commission’s Steve Tomlinson’s land management crew and Game Commission WCO Steve Leiendecker (Southern Fayette County) helped get this project done.
Waterway’s Conservation Officer Scott Opfer and trainee Darrin Gephart from the Fish and Boat Commission helped with the stream cleanup along with president John Maddas from the Dunbar Sportsman Club and Boy Scouts from Dunbar and Valley Sportsmen’s Club.
I also want to thank the manager of super WalMart Jack Yard and Project Manager Jane Croftcheck for providing the $5,000 grant to PA CleanWays to do this project and supplying the food to feed the volunteers after the cleanup.
A special thanks goes out to Tom from KDKA Channel 2 news who came up from Washington to cover this event at my request. Tom covered it for Channel 2 and Channel 4 as we wanted to get the message out that it is wrong to dump garbage and that it should be taken to a landfill.
If I missed anyone, I apologize as this was a large turnout and I personally thank all of you, as I know you gave up time on an Easter weekend to be with your family to get this project done.
Thanks,
Richard Fearer
President Fayette County Sportsmen’s League, a county chapter of the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs.
