Coder to seek fourth term as commissioner
Greene County Commissioner Dave Coder announced that he is seeking the Democratic nomination in this year’s primary for his fourth term in office. Coder, of Franklin Township, said he is running a coordinated campaign with Pam Snyder, the incumbent Democratic chairwoman of the county commissioners.
Coder said the current board of commissioners has aggressively addressed many issues including community and business development, and those issues would remain his top priorities.
“This board has been aggressive on all fronts,” Coder said. “Community and retail development is important.”
The bond issue that the commissioners floated to help pay for water and sewer infrastructure projects will spur development, he said.
“I really think this is going to be a big help to our communities,” Coder said. “It’s just getting under way.”
He said the commissioners have worked with municipal, state and federal on several successful projects in the county.
Some of the projects are development of business parks, the Waynesburg Prosperous and Beautiful Main Street programs, the ongoing construction of a new aquatic center, development of the Greene River trail, and renovations and improvements to the county courthouse, fairgrounds and Fort Jackson Hotel, Coder said.
“The relationships that have been developed with local and regional leaders alike during my tenure as county commissioner have been critical to my goal of promoting Greene County’s best interests,” Coder said in a prepared announcement. “I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to utilize what I have learned to help our communities grow and flourish and to preserve the qualities that make Greene County a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family.”
Coder said he serves on the board of directors of the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania and is chairman of its community and economic development committee.
Gov. Edward Rendell appointed Coder to the Port of Pittsburgh Commission.
Coder is a board member of the Regional Industrial Development Corp. and the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance.
He is the immediate past chairman of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission and has served as chairman of the Greene County Democratic Committee, a member of the Pennsylvania State Democratic Committee and as an elected delegate to the Democratic National Convention.
He graduated from Mapletown High School and Waynesburg College, where he received a degree in business administration.
Coder said he is a U.S. Coast Guard veteran.
He and his wife, the former Cindy Hoyle, have two daughters Mallory and Chelsea.
