George John Kazimer

George John Kazimer, age 80, of Uniontown, Pa., died on Friday, February 2, 2007, at home with his loved ones by his side. He was born on May 11, 1926, in Uniontown, Pa., the son of Stephen Kazimer and Anna (Smolka) Kazimer.

George was known to everyone as “Kazz the Glassman”, or “Rizzo” by his baseball-playing friends.

He was a lifelong, well-known glazier who worked independently as well as for Fox Glass and also Pittsburgh Plate Glass.

During World War II, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy.

He also played third base for the Cleveland Indians and was inducted into the “Big Ten Hall of Fame”.

George was known for having a kind word for everyone he ever met.

He was a lifelong member of Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church and faithfully attended Mass every day with his dog, “Buster” and never missed a Holy Day of Obligation.

An avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he also never missed a ball game.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 47 in Uniontown, the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 in Hopwood, Pa., and The Polish Club, Uniontown.

His parents, first wife, Marie C. Kazimer, brothers, Rudolph Kazimer, Stephen “Kezi” Kazimer, John Kazimer, Joe Spalek, Andrew Turchan and Joseph “Bicycle Joe” Kazimer, and a sister, Mary Kazimer Sesock, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his life-long companion and soul mate, Joanne Brown Meyers of Uniontown, Pa., and her family, whom he held in his heart as his grandchildren: Angie Brown Lucas and her husband, Dan, of Uniontown, Pa., and their three daughters, who were the love of his life: Kaitlin, Milissa and Danniele; three sisters: Josephine Woytus, Anna Payesko and Anna Turchan; numerous nieces and nephews including his Goddaughter, Nancy Kodric Balser, his niece, Judy Kazimer Rusnock and her husband, Frank, of Uniontown, Pa., whom he loved and thought the world of, and a nephew, Rudy Kazimer and his wife, Judy, of Rices Landing, Pa.; five Godchildren: Steve Kvasnovsky, Alan Kvasnovsky, Barbara Anne Firestone, Patti Solomon Burkland and Marlyn Brown; and special family friends, Greg and Judy Nehls of New Salem, Pa.

He also leaves behind his “best friends”: his dogs, “Buster”, “Pipsqueak”, “Vador”, and “Hobo”, and his cats, “Loving Kitty” and “Matilda”.

Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., 603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, February 6, 2007, until 9:45 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, North Mount Vernon Avenue, with the Rev. Father Micah E. Kozoil as Celebrant.

Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103.

The Parish Wake Service will be held this afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
