Investigators probe Rostraver Township deaths

ROSTRAVER TWP. – Investigators believe a Westmoreland County man killed himself after shooting his three children. It is believed that Daniel L. Riley, 39, of Belle Vernon shot himself after killing his three children, two girls and one boy.

The bodies were found Sunday.

Rostraver Township Police Chief Greg Resetar said the bodies of Riley and his children – 8-year-old Kate, 6-year-old Michael and 4-year-old Julia – were found in an upstairs bedroom of a 320 Mohawk Drive residence.

Resetar said a telephone call was made to Westmoreland County 911 around 6:30 p.m. notifying emergency personnel of the incident.

According to Resetar, a family relative had accompanied the mother of the children, Felicia Riley of Greensburg, to the residence Sunday to pick the children up.

Officials on scene said Daniel and Felicia Riley had recently separated and that this was the husband’s weekend to have the children.

Resetar said a family member found the father and three children dead in an upstairs bedroom.

Late Sunday evening, yellow police tape cordoned off Riley’s house, located in the upscale Shawnee Point development complex.

Neighbors maintained a distance, peeking out windows from behind curtains, while the flash from the investigators’ cameras could be seen through the upstairs windows of Riley’s house.

Resetar and Officer Joe Dugan and Officer Richard Beranek are handling the investigation, police said.

The Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office was on scene late Sunday.

Autopsies are scheduled for today and will be conducted by forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht.
