David Emmons Newcomer
David Emmons Newcomer, 79, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away Sunday, February 4, 2007, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa. He was born June 29, 1927, in Uniontown, Pa., the son of Paoli Emmons “P. E.” Newcomer and Mary Ellen Matthews Newcomer.
David was a member of Chalk Hill United Methodist Church, the Senior Golf League and the Mountain Senior Action Group.
He retired from West Penn Power Company.
David graduated from Uniontown Senior High School, Class of 1946, where he was a football and basketball star.
He also was an avid baseball player and had been drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
He was a veteran of World War II who served in the United States Navy.
David was predeceased by his parents, a son, David L. Newcomer, a granddaughter, Kelly Kohrman Graves, and a sister, Emma Elizabeth Newcomer Hanlon.
Surviving are his wife, Larna Byers Newcomer; two daughters: Patricia Kohrman and her husband, Richard, of Point Marion, Pa., and Jane Ruse and her husband, David, of Chalk Hill, Pa., a daughter-in-law, Edie Newcomer of Westfield, New Jersey; eight grandchildren: Emily Newcomer and Aaron Ball, Eric Newcomer and his wife Alison, Heather Vavrek and her husband James, Gretchen Bircher and her husband Brian, Allyson Ruse Haragos, Amanda Ruse and Jeff Uehara, Brian Russo and Travis Russo; and eight great-grandchildren: Zak, Ian and Mason Graves, Gage and Garrison Vavrek, Blaise and Gatian Bircher, and Hadley Raye Newcomer.
Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, Hopwood, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, February 7, until 11 a.m., the hour of the Service with the Rev. James Smiley officiating.
Interment will be private.
