Police file drug charges against Uniontown woman
Uniontown police have filed multiple charges against a 30-year-old Uniontown woman after a raid on her Pershing Court home Saturday morning. LaSha Yvonne DeBerry of 28 Pershing Court was charged Tuesday with several drug-related offenses, possession of a prohibited offensive weapon and corruption of minors Tuesday. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Mark L. Blair, police said.
City police, in conjunction with the Fayette County Drug Task Force, executed a search warrant at a housing unit in the Pershing Court housing complex Saturday morning in Uniontown.
More than a dozen officers from around Fayette County converged on 28 Pershing Court at 6:58 a.m. and used a tool to gain entry into the apartment, according to Detective Donald M. Gmitter.
Gmitter said DeBerry and a 17-year-old Uniontown boy were found inside the apartment and were taken into custody without incident.
Gmitter noted that two children also were discovered inside the home.
Gmitter said police seized a loaded sawed-off shotgun in a dresser drawer, suspected marijuana in an ashtray and a digital scale in a kitchen cupboard with suspected cocaine residue from the residence.
According to Gmitter, officers conducted two “controlled buys” in a one-week period at the apartment prior to the application for the warrant.
In both cases, Gmitter said a confidential informant purchased crack cocaine from the home.
Additionally, Gmitter said charges will be filed against the 17-year-old found inside the home.
