Dedication weekend planned for church’s new Family Life Center
Pennsville Baptist Church is planning a dedication service for their new Family Life Center on Sunday at 9:45 a.m. Ron Bishop of SCORE International will be the featured speaker. The theme for the weekend is, “To God Be the Glory.” Special music will be presented by Praise III and the adult choir with soloist Zach Etling. As part of the dedication weekend, the teenagers will enjoy J3 – Java, Jumpin’ and Jesus – an evening featuring Starbucks coffee, inflatables, games, and prizes including an Ipod and a Steelers’ jersey on Saturday at 7. This is the first planned event for the church’s new Family Life Center. Bishop will also be the special guest speaker for J3.
Bishop was a pastor for three years before coming back to his alma mater, Tennessee Temple University, as the men’s head basketball coach. He served at Tennessee Temple for 10 years as head coach with a career record of 279-88. Ron collected many honors from his years at Tennessee Temple including four national championships, NCCAA National Coach of the Year in 1979 and 1982, and NACA National Coach of the Year in 1983.
In 1985, Bishop resigned from Tennessee Temple to start the ministry SCORE. Taking a basketball team to Mexico, this unusual ministry had a national impact. Since then, thousands of athletes have traveled with SCORE to 20 countries and have preached the Gospel to thousands of spectators at halftime. SCORE has now expanded and is also taking church youth groups, senior class trips, choirs, medical teams, and construction teams to other countries – all in a effort to evangelize, expose people to missions, and edify the local church.
Through the ministry of SCORE, Bishop is able to speak to thousands of teens every year. He also is in high demand as a speaker for mission conferences, revivals, school chapels, and teen camps. Along with these opportunities, Ron also speaks in NBA chapels for players.
