Pittsburgh outdoor show gets under way Thursday
PITTSBURGH – Sports enthusiasts from across the region can come inside to the great outdoors when the 22nd annual Allegheny Sport, Travel and Outdoor Show runs Wednesday, Feb. 14 through Sunday, Feb. 18 at the Monroeville ExpoMart. Produced by Expositions, Inc., the area’s only show dedicated to hunting, fishing and camping features hundreds of state-of-the-art exhibitors, dozens of live demonstrations, and a top-notch line-up of seminar experts.
With more than 50 sessions with some of sports’ finest pros and biggest money winners, the schedule is literally overflowing with a wide-ranging slate of speakers.
“This year the Allegheny Sport Show will really cater to local outdoorsmen,” said Show Producer Chris Fassnacht. “This show’s non-stop schedule features high quality seminars and demonstrations about hunting, fishing and camping in Western PA. We’ve invited the experts who really know the waters and fields around Pittsburgh.”
Fishing fanatics will be thrilled to the gills with scheduled lectures and demonstrations by hometown experts including John Bodner, Fred Davoli and Keith Eshbaugh. They’ll be joined by one of the sport’s nationally ranked authorities: Doug Strickland.
Those scavenging for the latest hunting tips and equipment will delight with presentations by Riley Foster, Rich Kerlin and Greg Neumann. The show also features hundreds of exhibits with comprehensive information on planning the perfect vacation or arranging fishing and hunting expeditions.
New this year is a hardy line-up of main stage presentations by animal experts from the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium. Highlighting North American and Rainforest animals, the presentations are expected to include alligators, a great horned owl, kinkajou, a macaw and many other fascinating wild creatures.
Among local outdoor sports authorities, the Allegheny Sport Show is particularly noted for its depth of state-of-the-art equipment that’s often difficult to locate at local retailers. But less experienced sportsmen will also want to stop by to check out the rods, reels, lures, hunting gear, electronic navigational devices and other equipment that’s slated to be on sale at some of the best prices of the season.
And those planning spring and summer vacations will want to chat with the Show’s many seasoned travel professionals. On-the-go types can coordinate fun family camping adventures, adventuresome fishing charters, and even once-in-a-lifetime hunting excursions in exotic locales. At this year’s Show, professional travel planners are expected to be on hand from as close as Ohio Pyle and as far away as Alaska and even Africa.
The Show will also feature a wide range of Canadian lodges, camps and outfitters. And since valid U.S. passports are now required for travel between the U.S. and our neighbor to the north, the Show will also host an information center for those travelers who need to acquire passports.
“This show showcases a wide range of information and products,” Fassnacht explained. “Avid fans of outdoor sports will find state-of-the-art products. And just once-in-a-while participants can get the information and advice they need to get moving.”
In addition, experienced fishermen from the Allegheny County Sportsmen’s League will be on hand at the Indoor Trout Pond to offer novice enthusiasts advice for casting and angling. The proceeds from this exhibit benefit youth conservation programs in Allegheny County.
Admission to the 2007 Allegheny Sport, Travel and Outdoor Show is $8.50 for adults. Children 12 and under are admitted free with paid adult admission. More than 40,000 parking spaces are available free of charge. “Dollar Off” coupons for the show are available at participating McDonald’s restaurants and beverage stores that sell Coors Light Beer.
