GEORGES TWP. – Charges have been filed against a Uniontown man after he allegedly assaulted a man and woman at a Shoaf residence Feb. 3. Craig Owen David Sr., 52, was charged last week with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief and two counts of harassment.

State police allege David assaulted Omar Assem and Monica Murray, both of Georges Township, with a wrench at Assem’s home following a dispute over money.

According to a criminal complaint filed in the case by trooper Scott Shell, Assem told police that David, who he described as a former friend, was at his home at 168 Smiley Road when the dispute began.

Shell said David pushed Assem on the porch steps of the home and then threw a crowbar through a front window of the residence.

David then threw a wrench at Assem, striking him in the chest, Shell said.

Shell said David picked up the wrench a second time and threw it at Murray, striking her in the right hand.

Police said David then got into his car and drove it into Assem as he stood outside the home, striking and injuring Assem’s right knee and running over his right foot.

David then fled the scene, Shell said.

Less than two hours later, Shell said police received a call reporting David had returned to the Smiley Road home.

About 15 minutes later, police were able to apprehend David at his residence on Morgantown Road, Shell said.

David is being held in the Fayette County Prison on $7,500 straight-cash bond.

A preliminary hearing will be held before Magisterial District Judge Randy Abraham.
