Carmichaels council approves borough building plans

By Steve Ferris 1 min read

Carmichaels Borough Council on Tuesday approved construction plans for a new borough building. Council unanimously approved the plans that Fayette Engineering prepared for a one-story 900-square-foot building that will be constructed on a lot the borough owns in the town square.

Chris Bates, council president, said the plans will be forwarded to the Greene County planning commission for its approval.

After the plans are approved, council will advertise for construction bids, Bates said.

Council has about $123,000 earmarked for the building and all of it is grant money except for $15,000 from the borough’s coffers.

The vinyl-sided building will house the police station, borough offices, a meeting room and storage. Council currently leases a small office on South Market Street.

Council has been trying to get new building since last spring when it advertised for a modular building.

All the bids were rejected because they did not meet the specifications.

Fayette Engineering was hired in November to design a new building.

In other business, council is reminding property owners that they are responsible to clear snow and ice from the sidewalks in front of their properties.
