Wilson R. Shope
Wilson R. Shope, 93, of Scottdale, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2007, in the Excela Health Latrobe Hospital, Latrobe. Wilson was a Pennsylvania Registered Professional Engineer. He graduated from Penn State University in 1938 with a BS degree and received his Masters Engineering Degree in 1956 from the University. He began his work career in 1938 working for the West Penn Power Company (Allegheny Power) and rose to the rank of Division Engineering Supervisor. On June 30, 1078, he retired after 40 years of service and began a new career as Executive Director of the Scottdale Community Civic Industrial Association. He was actively involved in the Scottdale Urban Renewal Project and in the development of a master plan for the Scottdale area. In later years, he served as the coordinator for the Jacobs Creek Flood Control Project.
Wilson will be missed by his wife, Marjorie E. Miller Shope; four daughters: Marjorie E. Stover and husband, Bill Stover of Oaklyn, N.J., Wilma R. Ryan and husband, Dr. William Ryan of Luther, Oak., Mary J. Allison and husband, Reed Allison of Mount Pleasant, and Alma G. Stoner and husband, Marvin Stoner of Scottdale; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two brothers: David Shope and wife, Lori of Centre County, Jack Shope and wife, Kitty of Littitz; a sister, Marilyn Houck of State College; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be no public viewing. Plans for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
