ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, corner of Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street in Uniontown, announces Sunday’s more casual 9 a.m. worship service will include the Rev. Thomas E. Brown’s message “What Are You Willing and Able to Do?’ praise choruses led by song leader Barb Cruse and music by pianist Sharon Brown.

The more traditional 11 a.m. service will include the message by Brown and special music by the Asbury Chancel Choir and music director and organist Jim Hutchinson. ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE IN MASONTOWN: Masontown United Methodist Church will host an Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. that is open to Christians of all faiths whose church may not be offering an Ash Wednesday service. ST. GEORGE MARONITE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 6 Lebanon Terrace, Uniontown, announces Catholic inquiry classes for those who may consider joining the Catholic Church will begin today at 7 p.m. in the rectory. Catholics are also welcomed and encouraged to attend and learn more about their 2,000-year-old faith, said the Rev. Joseph R. David. Classes will be conducted by Joanne John. Mardi Gras and talent show sponsored by the Maronite Youth Group of the parish will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. in the social hall with prizes and a free ice cream bar. The season of Great Lent begins for Maronites with Cana on Sunday, followed by Ash Monday with Liturgy at 7:15 p.m. only, celebrated by David, at which time ashes will be distributed. Fast and abstinence are to be observed on Ash Monday and Great Friday plus abstinence from meat is to be observed on all Fridays of Lent.

Bible series begins on Monday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. and every Monday of Lent in the rectory with David. Regular Eucharistic adoration will continue every Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lenten Friday services begin Feb. 23 at 5:45 p.m., followed by a Lenten meal in the parish hall. ST. GEORGE SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH IN CARMICHAELS announces Great Lent begins for Orthodox Christians on Monday. Officials said, “This is a great time of great preparation, fasting and prayer in anticipation of the celebration of Pascha (Easter) on April 8. Great Lent is a time for repentance. It is a time for care of the soul. Divine services increase and change during the period of Great Lent.’

On Sunday evening, representatives of 10 Serbian Orthodox churches in the area and the mission church from Fairmont, W.Va., will travel to St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in McKeesport for the celebration of Forgiveness Vespers. Homilist will be the Very Rev. Rade Merick, vice president of the Serbian Orthodox Clergy Brotherhood of the United States and Canada, co-editor of The Path of Orthodoxy, the official publication of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the United States and Canada, and the parish priest of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church in Steubenville, Ohio. The Very Rev. Stevo Rocknage, president of the Orthodox Clergy Brotherhood of Greater Pittsburgh, is host priest. With the archpastoral blessings of Bishop Dr. Mitrophan, the Very Rev. Stevan Stepanov, Pittsburgh area dean, establishes the schedule of Sunday evening Lenten services throughout the area. The Rev. Rodney Torbic is pastor of St. George.

Trinity Chancel Choir will join the West Virginia University Concert Choir in presenting Gabriel Faure’s “Requiem in D Minor’ on Sunday, March 4, at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary.
