Events planned
Belmont Inn in Uniontown will be sponsoring numerous events during the next month to raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Belmont Inn is beginning its 20-year being involved in the National Multiple Sclerosis U.G.L.Y. Bartender Contest. U.G.L.Y. is an acronym for Understanding, Generous, Loveable, You. Through the years, the Belmont Inn has raised more than $175,000.00 for the cause.
Owner Jim Santilli said the reason Belmont Inn got involved was that his mother, Mary Elizabeth, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the early 1980s and that the contest was a way for him to indirectly help his family and others with MS.
Some of the events planned are a Cut-A-Thon at Bloomin’ Hair in the Uniontown Shopping Center from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb 25. Haircuts will be available for a donation. All ages are welcome. On Saturday, March 3, a cash bash will be held at the American Legion Post 51 in Uniontown, with half of the proceeds being donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Tickets are available at the Belmont Inn or from American Legion members.
One of the Belmont’s main fund-raisers, “Up On the Roof”, will take place from Thursday, March 8, to Sunday, March 11. Santilli will be on the roof of his business beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 8, until 6 p.m. Sunday, March 11. He will be joined on Friday by his 13-year-old son, Michael, who will brave the elements until Sunday. Sunday also will feature a disc jockey in the parking lot, and food and beverages will be available for a donation. This will mark the seventh year that the Belmont Inn will host the event.
